Description
Photo © 2019 Susan Wiedmann. This orange-hued dragonfly is a type of the Meadowhawk species. Dragonflies can also have blue, brown, black or multiple colors in their bodies and delicate wings.
Belonging to the insect order Odonata (meaning "toothed ones"), dragonflies have a tooth-like serrated jaw and a near-360-degree vision field, making them successful hunters of insects such as mosquitoes. According to scientists, dragonflies have been on this planet for about 300 million years.
